Flu Vaccination
The flu is a common and highly contagious viral infection that can lead to serious illness, particularly in older adults, young children, and people with weakened immune systems.
Receiving your annual flu vaccine can help reduce your risk of getting the flu and may also lower the spread of the virus within the community. It is generally recommended to receive your flu shot before the start of flu season, which usually runs from October through May.
Allergy Injections
Travelling can expose you to new allergens such as pollen, dust, pet dander, and other environmental triggers. For people with allergies, these exposures may increase the risk of allergic reactions.
If you have known allergies, our healthcare provider may recommend allergy injections or other preventive measures to help manage your symptoms before you travel.
Travel Immunizations
Some destinations require or recommend specific vaccinations before travel. The vaccines you need depend on where you are travelling and your individual health needs.
Depending on your destination, you may need protection against diseases such as:
- Hepatitis A.
- Typhoid.
- Yellow fever.

Preparing for International Travel
Before travelling outside Canada, it is important to plan ahead and make sure your vaccinations are up to date.
Before your trip, consider the following:
Check with our healthcare provider or pharmacist to see if you need any vaccines or booster shots.
Plan ahead, as some vaccines take 4 to 6 weeks to provide full protection, and some require more than one dose.
Make sure your routine vaccinations are up to date before travelling.
Confirm you are protected against routine diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, chickenpox, polio, hepatitis B, and seasonal influenza.

Some countries, including parts of Africa and South America, require proof of yellow fever vaccination before entry.
If you are travelling to an area where malaria is common, our healthcare provider may prescribe anti-malaria medication. Although it is not a vaccine, it is important to take the medication as directed, including after returning home.
If you are travelling to areas where mosquito-borne illnesses such as Zika or dengue are present, take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, as vaccines are not available for these diseases.
